Campus Dean
Mercer County Campus- Princeton, WV
Summary of Responsibilities:
The Campus Dean reports to the Vice President/Chief Academic Officer (CAO) and cooperates with the members of the president’s staff to provide effective leadership and management of the academic, human, financial and physical resources of the respective campuses.
This individual leads and administers campus activities and operations; exercises day-to-day supervision of campus personnel including faculty; identifies, recommends and evaluates adjunct faculty; develops campus class schedules in coordination with other campus deans; procures textbooks, learning resources, and student support services; manages physical resources; develops community partnerships to foster the goals of the college; works with the Vice President of Institutional Advancement and Workforce Education to support expansion of programs and services; works with the Executive Vice President/CAO to create and manage college programs and services with the area high schools and vocational schools; and actively supports and works toward achieving all Compact Goals established through WVCCTCE; and works with the New River Foundation and appropriate staff in capital campaign projects. Signature Authority: $5,000. This individual is responsible for conducting performance appraisals and hiring of staff.
Specific Responsibilities:
• Contributes to the institution and the institutional strategic plan and implements aspects specific to the campus;
• calls and presides over meetings of the campus faculty and staff;
• manages the recruitment and selection process for new full-time and adjunct faculty and new staff and provides orientation to the college in cooperation with the Human Resource department;
• works with the Office of Institutional Effectiveness to schedule student evaluations of faculty as needed;
• manages the campus’ equipment, classroom and office space, and other physical facilities; supervise the campus’ support staff, assigns work-study students; and supervises the acquisition of books and supplies for courses and programs on the campus;
• works to promote good student-faculty-community relations;
• supervises the process of resolving faculty and/or student problems at the campus level;
• acts as liaison between administration and the campus, including communication, and implementation of policies, procedures and actions of the administration;
• submits assessment/evaluation reports in accordance with institutional requirements;
• carries out other responsibilities as assigned by the President and/or Executive Vice President/ CAO; and
• attends required meetings.
In Cooperation/Consultation with the Chief Academic Officer:
• May teach one course per semester with approval from CAO;
• schedules classes, determines faculty teaching assignments, observes faculty, and determines advisor assignments;
• conducts staff evaluations and assists with faculty evaluations;
• in consultation with faculty, completes program reviews for academic quality and relevance to occupational needs, student’s demands, and community needs. Include students and advisory committee members in an ongoing evaluation of curriculum;
• provides leadership in academic planning;
• is responsible for the reports in accordance with institutional requirements;
• in consultation with faculty, identifies departmental budget needs, develops and administers the campus/department budget;
• helps to identify and secure sources of funding for college programs;
• secures and/or maintains program accreditation at state, regional and national levels if applicable;
• coordinates advisory committee meetings for departmental specific programs;
• assists with implementation of innovative teaching methodologies relative to emerging technologies and distance education;
• assists departmental faculty with development and implementation of new options in current programs and new programs of study appropriate to the mission of the institution;
• builds strong working relationships with area high schools to support early enrollment;
• makes recommendations related, but not limited to, tenure, promotion, appointment, leave, etc., subject to the institutional policies and procedures, and with the intent to strengthen faculty quality on the respective campus and within the academic department; and
• assesses compliance for the completion and accuracy of student degree audits (45/64+ hour evaluations).
In Cooperation with the Director of Enrollment Services:
• Works with appropriate offices in the recruitment and retention of students.
Education/Licensure:
A Master’s Degree and a valid Driver’s License are required.
Experience:
• Minimum of five (5) years teaching and administrative experience at the two-year college level
• Must have a minimum of 2 years experience supervising a wide range of job titles
• Successful candidates will also demonstrate proven leadership, and strong organizational, communication, and computer skills.
Reports to:
This is a Non-Classified, Exempt position, reporting directly to the Executive Vice President/Chief Academic Officer (CAO) with an annual salary of $70,000. |
